TREES, a collection of jewellery inspired by nature and designed by Inita Straupe. 15% of the income from this collection is donated to the children of the Zvannieki house. The collection is based on wood – its laconic, yet rich lines of branches, are intertwined with spring-light earrings, gorgeous necklaces, and bracelets. The collection is designed by Inita Straupe. “As a child, I loved watching the silhouettes of trees against the sky. My grandfather was a scientist – a tree breeder – so it was important for me to know the name of a tree when I looked at it. I drew trees and their leaves and tried to show the diversity and variety in the world of trees. Later, when I got into graphics, the silhouette lines of trees were brought to life in my ink works, and I love the representation of trees in other artists’ work. When making jewellery, I would come back to nature again and again. I start my morning by looking at a tree, the pattern of its branches against the sky, this has given me the inspiration for this collection.” A tree is an ancient and widespread symbol that can be found in different cultures and religions around the world. The symbol is portrayed as a tree with branches pointing towards the sky. It is interpreted as the cycle of life, growth, and development. A tree can also be associated with a world that extends from the past to the future, and its branches pointing towards the sky can symbolise dreams, hopes and understanding.
